Apple Pie yum!

October 1st, 2006 at 08:17 pm

So I baked this apple pie today because we had so many excess apples... I got a recipe online and all seemed well. Smelled delicious! When I took it out it looked GREAT [see picture]. Tell me that doesn't look delicious! Well, I cut a peice and it was for lack of better wording, apple soup. Much like many of my other attempts at cooking, it just didn't seem quite right. But I'll tell ya, apple pie vanilla icecream soup is pretty darn good. hehe. Any suggestions for what I did wrong?? Smile Thanks guys!

Was there any corn starch in the recipe? That is what is usually used to thicken stuff up.

Actually, no. There wasn't. A-ha! I'll have to find a recipe with cornstarch in it next time...

I always find it "jells" up a bit when it is cool. Warm pie is great but fresh out of the oven warm pie tends to be runny until it is fully cool.

A tablespoon of cornstarch sprinked over the apples would likely do it - if you want to keep the same recipe. (Though some cooks my be now cringing at me)

For apples, if you don't have any cornstarch, some recipes call for sacrificing a half an apple, stewing it, and making applesauce out of it, and using that with some sugar to thicken the pie.
